Growing up I remember bringing a report card home to my parents.   I had mostly A’s, a couple B’s, maybe even a C.   I was happy with it…at least I was trying to sell to them that this was a good report card.   I handed them the report card...   They got upset when they saw it.   “Chandler, this is not your best.” they said.   “But Mom, Dad, you don’t understand!! My friend got some B’s, C’s, and even a D and his parents aren’t mad. Why are you mad??"   Again, they said: “Chandler, this is not your best. We know what your best looks like and this is not it. If this was your best, it wouldn’t matter if it was C’s, D’s, or all A’s…as long as we knew it was your best. We know this is not your best."   I’ll never forget this moment. It cemented a lesson that’s stuck with me forever.   You DO NOT compete with the competition. You compete with YOURSELF…and your personal best.   This story formed one of our current Core Values at SPS that we call: “Best Is The Standard”.   (I got the phrasing of from Dabo Swinney - head coach of the Clemson Tigers - the GOAT)   Best Is The Standard in everything we do.   Listen to this episode to find out what “Best Is The Standard" means and how you can use it in your life, in your job, or in your company.   “Beating the competition is easy. Beating yourself is a never ending pursuit” -Nike   Best Is The Standard…and the best is yet to come! 📈   SUBSCRIBE to my YouTube channel here: http://bit.ly/chandlerYT   Check out what we're doing at Self Publishing School here: http://self-publishingschool.com   Learn about booking me to speak here: https://youtu.be/K12hkOXaM3k
