Simon Jenkins is a journalist, author and chairman of the National Trust. He writes a column twice weekly for the Guardian and weekly for the London Evening Standard. He edited the Evening Standard and The Times, was political editor of The Economist, and worked on Country Life and The Sunday Times. He has served on the boards of British Rail, London Transport and the Museum of London, and was deputy chairman of English Heritage. His books have ranged across London, the press, Welsh architecture and British politics, and include England’s 1,000 Best Churches, England’s 1,000 Best Houses, A Short History of England, and England’s 100 Best Views.
