Ricardo Allen began his football career at Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, FL. In his senior year he would accept a scholarship offer from Purdue University, where he would impressive NCAA career totals: 250 tackles, 3 sacks, 2, forced fumbles 13 interceptions, 4 touchdowns, and 22 pass deflections. As a result, Allen was drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in the 5th round of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Allen played the last 7 seasons for the Atlanta Falcons and is currently a free agent. Since 2015, Allen started in 76 games for Atlanta: recording 340 tackles, 11 interceptions and 1 sack. He was a 4 time team captain, and in 2019 Allen was named the Falcons' nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award.

A leader in both the locker room and his community, Allen was one of the driving forces behind the Falcons' Social Justice Committee, addressing social justice issues in Atlanta.
