Originally the Tesla Model 3 was touted as an affordable electric sedan set at $35,000. In reality the real deal model starts at $49,000. Elon and Tesla like to factor in gas savings and roughly $8000 in state and federal incentives (most of which are about to expire). The dual motor, all wheel drive performance addition that's getting all the rave reviews starts at $64,000. If you want to get fancy and add 20 inch wheels, a lower suspension and a top speed of 155 mph, it'll cost you an extra $5000. Now it wouldn't be a Tesla if it didn't have a high level intelligence operating system so for another $5000 you'll get the enhanced autopilot feature. Now your Model 3 has auto lane change, auto steer, and summon, which means the car will drive right out of it's parking space and come to you. Finally, if you want that future full self driving capability, that'll cost you $3000. That makes the grand total $80k! Kind of defeats the concept of an affordable all electric sedan, doesn't it?
