Frank Miller’s Daredevil

If you’ve already watched the Netflix Daredevil series (or better yet just about to watch), do yourself a favor and take in some of Frank Miller’s classic Daredevil comic run. Most of the source material for the Netflix series draws heavily from Miller’s stories and as you read along you’ll get a sense of just how dark Matt Murdock can be. Most of the classic Daredevil staples we think of today, namely, The Kingpin, Daredevil’s ninja training, Stick, as well as Elektra, were either created or brought into focus during Frank Miller’s 80’s Daredevil run. Luckily for you, in our modern world of Graphic Novels, most of Frank Miller’s Daredevil titles have been collected and can be found online for your enjoyment. Set aside some time and get immersed in the dark world of “The Man Without Fear.”

The Owl (Leland Owlsley)

Before there was a Netflix series, The Owl was a rather flashy Daredevil villain who altered himself to have an owl-like appearance. Considered “The Owl of Wallstreet,” Leland Owlsley was a financial genius and early “kingpin” of crime. Until the 80’s saw the rise of The Kingpin and Bullseye characters, many considered The Owl to be Daredevil’s most infamous foe. Now, in the Netflix Daredevil series, The Owl is reimagined and deftly played by character actor Bob Gunton. A business man reading the numbers like a shrewd nocturnal bird and going for the kill without regard for collateral damage. Beware the Owl.

Mark Hamill Reprises Trickster – For those too young to remember, 20 years ago Mark Hamill graced our television sets with his interpretation of the classic Flash rogue, The Trickster. This was the first time we had really seen the kind of range Mark Hamill had outside of the iconic Luke Skywalker role… and I, of course, loved every minute! Now, imagine my joy when I found out that over 2 decades later, Mr. Hamill would be reprising his role on the current CW Flash television series… my dope just couldn’t be contained! Could we see the Trickster emerge again in another 20 years? Here’s hoping!
