Resident Evil (1996)

Released in 1996 for the Playstation console, Resident Evil popularized the term “survival horror” and went on to become one of the most successful games that year. Resident Evil is unique in the sense that it not only kickstarted an entire genre of video games, but it helped propel Sony’s Playstation system to the number 1 selling gaming console that year- taking out long standing champ Nintendo. Resident Evil is a truly immersive experience and presents the player with many horrifying scares, haunting locales, and memorable creatures. Perhaps no one scene is more iconic, however, than the first zombie you encounter in the game… the epic head turn and that creepy eye. Check the links below to relive this scene in all it’s glory.

Shinji Mikami

When you take the time to read Shinji Mikami’s story, you can’t help but be inspired. Here’s a guy who took a genre he was passionate about (in this case Zombies), saw some flaws in what was being presented to people, and decided to improve the genre and deliver what he felt was the best experience possible. He put everything on the line and even went toe-to-toe with Capcom executives a few times to ensure Resident Evil was made according to his vision. It was a gamble, but he stuck to his guns and delivered a game that revolutionized the industry. The Resident Evil franchise now sits at just under $2 Billion in overall revenue… what’s the price of an uncompromising vision? You tell us. Check the links below to learn more about the amazing Mikami- a true hero within the halls of the Diabolical Penthouse.

The Evil Within (October 2014)

Unsatisfied with the survival horror games that have released in recent years, Mikami has decided to step into the director’s chair one last time to develop The Evil Within. The game is slated for a Fall 2014 release and according to Mikami, will transport gamers back to that uneasy, yet unbelievable, feeling they had when playing either Resident Evil 1 or 4. The term survival horror will once again get redefined and players can expect many scares, great music, and a great psychological workout as they play through the game. We, for one, can’t wait for the game’s release; it will definitely take over the Diabolical Penthouse for a few weeks. Check the links below for more info and an extended gameplay trailer.
