SUMMER OF SUMMER-TIME SUMMER: “I guess there’s a Speed 2?” (1997) In the summer of ‘97, a nation already mourning the loss of TV’s Wings turned to their Cineramadome to ask in anguish “How much Nicholas Cage can one marquee take?” It was a heated season full of Lost Worlds, Fifth Elements and more Batman and Robin physiology than a latex body suit cast by the shaky hands of an 80 year old man servant should render. So now, 22 years (and a two month hiatus) later, Bob and Tim take to this podcast to survey the fiascos of that fabled summer complete with a momentary reference to the Danny Glover/Joe Pesci debacle “Gone Fishin’.” Welcome back!

00:00:38 BACK TO THE MICS - and one before 100

00:04:08 POST COLLEGE DYSPHORIA - going (and not going) to California

01:06:20 FLAILING TO CINEMA - and a changing relationship to art

Make up your own mind on the legitimacy of Mike Myer’s singing with this performance (backed by Susanna Hoffs) of “BBC” BY MING TEA.

Dodge some savage blows while while hitting all the high notes of THE FIFTH ELEMENTS’S DIVA DANCE.

Down a little Dramamine to better follow long the bobbing blog post FRANCHISE KILLERS: SPEED 2 CRUISE CONTROL originally posted on the LEBEAU’S LE BLOG.

Take the more journalistic approach to what happened on this summer’s screen with these articles from DEN OF GEEK, THE TROUBLED BLOCKBUSTER SUMMER OF 1997 and WARNER BROTHERS AND THE DISASTEROUS MOVI SUMMER OF 1997 both by Simon Brew.

Hear Tim talk through the entirety of a comic book flop in an attempt to defend Joel Schumacher’s choices in this original, full-length audio commentary from 20POPCAST’S EPISODE 055: BATMAN AND ROBIN.

And, finally, check out a couple comic book fiascos Bob and Tim didn’t get to with the double impact of “ugh” for the ORIGINAL THEATRICAL TRAILER FOR SPAWN and AN EQUALLY ORIGINAL TRAILER FOR STEEL (if you are only going to watch one trailer this show notes … make it the Steel trailer).
