Nancy Hogshead-Makar was off to an elite Olympic swimming career when her life was turned upside down during her time as a student-athlete at Duke University. Out for a routine jog on campus, Nancy was abducted and brutally raped for hours.  She tells the details of this horrific experience and how she eventually used swimming to help overcome the devastating trauma.

She went on to win three gold medals and one silver medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics where she was the most decorated swimmer at the Games.

Her aspirations led her to pursue a law degree and a career dedicated to the advancement of women and to the protection of athletes from sexual abuse & misconduct in sports. In 2014 Hogshead-Makar founded ‘Champion Women’, an advocacy organization using sport to improve the lives of girls and women.
