The history of television is littered with shows that started life as a movie. But when it comes to the reverse, shows that made the leap to the big screen, the list is much smaller. That’s what I’m looking at for the 5th episode of The Steal My Name podcast, those rare shows that have broken free of the small screen to find new life on the big screen, in this case, The Simpsons Movie and Serenity. Whether it was to tell a story that was too big to be contained in a single episode or to meet the fan demand after a premature cancellation, I discuss all the success and dangers inherent in this transition. My Deep Space Nine re-watch trucks on with episode 5, Captive Pursuit, where we are introduced to a fan favorite character, Tosk, and I close up my first double bill with a look at Lauren Graham’s 2017 book, I’m Talking As Fast As I Can.
