At the dawn of the 1990s, with the explosion of punk and grunge into the mainstream, Nirvana rode the wave to superstardom, becoming the signature sound of disaffected Gen-X’ers. Nirvana’s troubled frontman, Kurt Cobain, had long had problems with drugs and depression, and the sudden thrust into the world’s spotlight didn’t seem to help matters. When he married fellow musician Courtney Love of Hole after only four months of dating, the media wondered if this was going to end in tragedy, if Kurt and Courtney were the Sid and Nancy of the nineties. Sadly, the relationship did end horribly, with Kurt’s suicide in 1994, and ensuing conspiracy theories about Courtney’s possible involvement in his death. Join Tom and Jenny as we go back in time to the heady early 90s, the mainstreaming of punk, and the tragic love story at the center of it all on a grim and grungy Valentine’s Day special.
