Only one week after the deadly terrorist attack on September 11, 2001, letters began arriving at various news media offices and the offices of a couple of US Senators. Inside these letters were cryptic messages as well as anthrax spores, which killed five people and infected at least twenty-two. Although Middle Eastern terrorists were initially suspected, the FBI would eventually point the finger of blame at an American biodefense scientist, Bruce Edwards Ivins, who committed suicide in 2008.
