Republican candidate for governor Chris Doughty says affordability is the biggest issue facing Massachusetts.

Doughty answered a series of questions about his candidacy for a "Beyond the Podium" segment.

Speaking about the cost of living in Massachusetts, he said: "Our state has just become so expensive to live there for our senior citizens, our working families, and our young families."

Doughty said his background as the only candidate with executive experience in the business world gives him the skills to tackle economic issues.

"I've been doing it my whole life. I make auto parts in Massachusetts," Doughty said. "If I have one skill, it's to make things affordably in Massachusetts."

Doughty said he's also come to appreciate the importance of a job to one's fulfillment, not just as a way to earn money.

He said the Golden Rule is the most important advice he ever received and that honesty is the the most important characteristic for politicians and leaders.

Doughty was also a guest on 10 News Conference.
