The CMA awards are, traditionally, not without controversy and this year was no exception. Taking place last night (Weds November 13th) at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, the awards were dogged by the continued narrative about the involvement of women in the Country music industry.

The CMA's decided to pair Carrie Underwood with both Dolly and Reba as co-hosts this year, making it a completely Brad Paisley free zone and many of the performances featured established and emerging female artists. Musicians like, Jennifer Nettles, made bold statements about the lack of gender equality throughout the genre, from radio to tour slots to the pay gap by the record labels but the whole thing was then undermined by what happened with the Entertainer of the Year award.

James gives his own thoughts and analysis on the awards in general and tries to make some sense of the mess that is Entertainer of the Year.
